Today we announce the 30 individuals/teams who have been shortlisted for our 2024 Team Orkney Awards.

Our shortlist has been chosen by our overarching judging panel and recognised for their exceptional care and contributions to our patients, to keeping our services running, and going above and beyond to improving and innovating our services.

We are delighted to be working in partnership with The Orcadian for our staff awards – which have been reintroduced in direct response to staff feedback.

Laura Skaife-Knight, NHS Orkney Chief Executive, said: “A very well done to everyone who was nominated for our awards this year and an extra special congratulations and recognition to those who have made our shortlist. What a fabulous achievement this is. I’m so proud of you all. Celebrating and recognising the great things Team Orkney do for our patients and community every day is hugely important. These awards are one of the examples of the changes we are making to listen to and act on staff feedback about the improvements that are needed in this important area. A big thanks to The Orcadian for working in partnership with us, including with the People’s Choice Award, showing the special connections and relationships we have with our local community and local media and our commitment to improving these further in the year to come and beyond.”

Meghan McEwen, Chair of NHS Orkney, said: “This shortlist represents an incredible range of skills, talent, and compassion and I know that each and every individual and team does NHS Orkney proud every day. Valuing our staff, and recognising their accomplishments is something NHS Orkney is committed to doing and these awards are a part of that. It has been a joy to see the buzz created by these awards, I want to congratulate everyone on the shortlist. You make NHS Orkney, and our community proud every day.”

Sarah Gilmour, Chief Reporter at The Orcadian, said: “The team at The Orcadian is delighted to support an event which highlights the hard work of all at NHS Orkney. The nomination process brought to light so many examples where staff have gone the extra mile, showing exceptional compassion and dedication in their roles. I was amazed to read about the achievements of those working in both clinical and non-clinical settings, and I know that these are just a small fraction of the tireless efforts made every day within healthcare. Whittling down a shortlist was a tremendously difficult task. I hope that these awards will serve as a celebration of each and every member of the NHS Orkney team, and those supporting healthcare throughout the community.”

The winners will be announced at a special event which will take place on Friday 22 March.

Our awards are possible thanks to the support from our sponsors and the Orkney Health Board Endowment Funds – a registered Scottish charity.
