What is a DAISY Award?

The DAISY Awards were established in 1999 in memory of J Patrick Barnes who passed away after an 8 week stay in hospital. You can read more about the Daisy Awards here, https://www.daisyfoundation.org/.

The DAISY Award is a recognition programme to celebrate and recognise nurses and midwives by collecting nominations from patients, families, and co-workers. It is a way to thank nurses and midwives for the care and kindness they provide.

What happens once you’ve nominated someone?

Everyone who is nominated for a DAISY Award receives a certificate and pin badge to celebrate the meaningful recognition made by patients, family members/relatives or co-workers. The nominations are then blinded and sent to an internal committee within NHS Orkney to read and be scored using the DAISY Award criteria. Honourees will then be selected throughout the year and celebrated at a dedicated ceremony.
