Dental Update
We’d like to thank everyone for their continued co-operation as we navigate the situation we are faced with regarding Deyanov Dental Practice. We have had no further contact from the Deyanov Practice and have concluded that the practice will likely be closed permanently. NHS Orkney have notified the profession’s regulator, the General Dental Council.
We’d like to remind patients that the findings of the inspection do not relate to concerns about direct clinical care i.e., the quality of dental treatment provided on any individual.
To reassure patients, we have secured all physical patient records from the Deyanov Dental Practice to ensure appropriate storage of these records. In terms of the electronic patient records, the data is encrypted so this cannot be accessed for future use. We have informed The Information Commissioners Office of the situation.
For anyone in acute dental pain, you can still access emergency dental treatment via the Public Dental Service at NHS Orkney, which operates from Garson Dental Clinic in Stromness (01856 850 658) and from The Balfour in Kirkwall (01856 888 258).
We are pleased to confirm Daisybank Dental Practice are currently able to see private patients for an assessment before joining their practice, although it may to be some time before patients are seen. If you are contacting Daisybank, the practice kindly asks that you do so via email (daisybankclinic@clydemunrodental.com), rather than presenting in person or calling if possible. Any patients joining the practice will be assessed and treated as new patients, with new treatment plans.
Neither NHS Orkney nor Daisybank are able to support with any matters related to finance. The Dental Complaints Service is the organisation tasked with complaints around private dentistry, however they may have limited scope to take action on this unprecedented situation where the dental practice in question is no longer contactable.
Finally, NHS Orkney remains optimistic that access to dentistry will improve in 2026, based on some recent recruitment success locally. We are also exploring options for different ways of delivering care, to make improvements for the people of Orkney.
