An update on the Daisy Villa GP Surgery

Updated statement issued 18 July 2024
As a further update, please see an additional statement from John Daniels below.
“Sometimes there is a time and place for somewhat vague language and unfortunately that’s right now, where I need to be really careful with what I’m saying to ensure I’m not compromising the confidentiality of an ongoing procurement process. As you all know, it’s really important that the procurement process is successful so we can have the future of Daisy Villa in safe and capable hands and while I know that’s not a particularly helpful update, it’s all I can really say on the matter and I am committed to updating you as much as I can, when I can.
What I can promise is that we’ll be in a position to say more come August/September but right now, we are simply discussing options with those interested in running the surgery. If there are any changes to services provided, we will of course be further engaging with the community council as previously done earlier in the year.
Finally, I met with the Daisy Villa team yesterday and had a really positive meeting and again we’d like to reiterate we are committed to, wherever possible, seeing continuity of the services currently provided by Drs Simon and Catriona Kemp. This continuity includes ensuring that, regardless of dispensing arrangements, residents of South Ronaldsay and Burray will continue to be able to access their prescriptions locally.”
Statement issued 17 July 2024
John Daniels, Head of Primary Care Services at NHS Orkney said: “Further to our press release on 6th June (Update on Daisy Villa Surgery) and our Chief Executive’s correspondence with Burray and South Ronaldsay Community Council on 3rd May and 6th June, I can confirm that the procurement process is underway for the provision of Primary Care Services at Daisy Villa Surgery. The first phase is due to be completed on 2nd August, at which point we will review all submitted proposals.
We have become aware of social media activity where a line from the procurement document was quoted. Understandably, concerned members of local communities have subsequently discussed the requirements for the practice to no longer have a dispensary. We apologise for any upset this information may have caused and want to provide reassurance that whilst the information has been quoted correctly, it also needs to be understood in the context of the broader procurement process and the conversations NHS Orkney has had with interested parties.
The formal procurement process is confidential. However, as per previous communications, NHS Orkney remains committed to maintaining high-quality Primary Care Services for the registered patients at Daisy Villa. Wherever possible, this would see continuity of the services provided by Drs Simon and Catriona Kemp, who have served the local community so well.”
