NHS Orkney has once again been awarded the Gold Award for continued commitment to the Armed Forces
Last Thursday, 7 March, Roy McLellan Regional Employer Engagement Director from Highland Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association presented NHS Orkney with the Gold Award for the Defence Employee Recognition Scheme in recognition of the commitment to the Armed Forces. The last time Orkney was awarded this was in 2018, with NHS Orkney the first Health Board to be awarded this accolade.
Ali Sabiston, NHS Orkney Talent and Culture Manager said: “As a veteran I am extremely proud to be part of an organisation that sees the potential in and, supports the Armed Forces community it has.”
Laura Skaife-Knight, NHS Orkney Chief Executive said: “I am incredibly proud of Team Orkney for receiving the Gold Award in recognition of our commitment to the Armed Forces community. It is a privilege for our organisation to have so many past servicemen and women be part of Team Orkney so that our community benefits from these unique skills and experiences.”
Major General Marc Overton, Assistant Chief of the Defence Staff for Reserves and Cadets said: “I wanted to take a few moments to congratulate and thank all of this year’s Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award winners. Representing the highest badge of honour, the Gold Award identifies organisations that employ, advocate for and support those who serve, veterans and their families. The number of winners this year yet again shows that the Armed Forces community talent pool is also providing significant business benefit. As the UK Defence’s senior reservist, I truly understand how vital the support is from our UK employers to Defence. So thank you for continuously supporting the Armed Forces community and once again, congratulations on receiving the Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award”
