We did it – NHS Orkney secures two National Awards

Last night, the prestigious Scotland Health Awards were held in Edinburgh at a dazzling awards ceremony to celebrate the outstanding work and commitment colleagues across the Health and Social Care network show to our patients and communities across Scotland.
We firstly want to recognise our three finalists, Anne Gregg, Macmillan Specialist Nurse and Amanda Manson, Cardiology Specialist Nurse, who were both nominated for Nurse of the Year Award and Melissa Lindsay, Midwife and Sonographer, who was nominated for Midwife of the Year Award.
We were so incredibly proud when we heard Melissa win Midwife of the Year and, Anne win Nurse of the Year!
The Nurse Award is ‘for an individual nurse providing excellent NHS nursing care for people in Scotland. It recognises the high quality and compassionate NHS nursing care that an individual nurse has provided for people in Scotland.’ Well done Anne.
And the Midwife Award is ‘for an individual midwife providing excellent care, evidenced-based NHS maternity services/care in Scotland, who is providing high quality compassionate care for women and babies in Scotland.’ What an achievement Melissa.
Sam Thomas, Executive Director of Nursing, Midwifery, AHP’s and Chief Officer Acute at NHS Orkney said: “I truly couldn’t be prouder of all three NHS Orkney finalists at this year’s awards. When I heard both the Nurse of the Year and the Midwife of the Year awarded I was genuinely delighted. I’d like to once again congratulate Amanda, Anne and Melissa, you’ve done yourselves and NHS Orkney proud. Finally, I wish to extend my congratulations to all finalists across all the categories and the very worthy winners.”
