Real Life Story: Georgie Green – Practice Education Lead for Nursing and Midwifery
Before joining NHS Orkney, Georgie lived in Canada and the rural West Highlands, experiences that deepened her appreciation for remote and rural healthcare and strengthened her love for Scotland, especially island life. With family roots in Shetland, moving to Orkney felt like a natural decision: “It’s a place where I feel truly at home, both personally and professionally.”
Georgie’s nursing journey began in children’s nursing and has taken her through acute care, community roles, safeguarding, and education. Over the years, she’s held roles including Practice Lead in Health Visiting, Child Protection Trainer, and Lecturer in Nursing. Alongside her work, Georgie has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education, an MSc in Child Protection, and an MSc in Educational Leadership, fueling her passion for learning and teaching.
Now, as Practice Education Lead, Georgie supports staff through coaching, supervision, and reflective practice. She leads on national frameworks, facilitates development days, and champions leadership at every level. Her achievements include becoming a Queen’s Nurse and a Senior Fellow of Advance HE, recognition of her commitment to excellence in education and care.
“Education has been a constant thread throughout my career,” Georgie says. “I love helping others grow and seeing the impact that great learning can have on patient care. Living and working in Orkney offers a rare blend of professional fulfilment and personal connection.”
