Hannah Marshall

Real Life Story: Hannah Marshall – Radiographer

Hannah first came to Orkney during her final year of university for a rural placement. With family roots in the islands, she was keen to explore somewhere connected to her ancestry, and quickly fell in love with the welcoming team at The Balfour.

When a Band 6 training post opened, Hannah jumped at the chance to return. Moving from Angus, she embraced the opportunity to fast-track her career through CT and DEXA training, something that would have been much harder to access elsewhere.

“Working in a smaller hospital means you really get to know people,” Hannah says. “Orkney is such a beautiful place to live, and there’s so much to do. I’ve joined the fencing club and play in a social netball league – it’s a great way to meet new people.”

Since joining NHS Orkney, Hannah has progressed to Band 6 within eight months, trained in advanced imaging, and qualified as a student practice educator. She recently completed training to justify oncology CT scans, adding another skill to her growing portfolio.

“Orkney is a great community to live and work in. I’ve made friendships for life and feel privileged to learn from such dedicated colleagues.”
