Real Life Story: Steven Johnston – Director of Dentistry and Senior Dental Officer
Steven is originally from Orkney, and returning home offered the perfect blend of career development and quality of life.
“It’s a great place to live and raise a family,” Steven says. “Working here means being part of a smaller team where you can have a real influence – something that’s harder to achieve in a big system.”
Since joining NHS Orkney, Steven has progressed through several promotions and undertaken additional training opportunities unique to a rural setting. His proudest achievement? Introducing an IV sedation service to NHS Orkney for the first time in 2017 – a milestone that transformed patient care.
Steven is quick to highlight the dedication of the dental team: “Many of our team members have worked with NHS Orkney for years, even decades. That level of commitment speaks volumes.”
