Orkney Alcohol and Drugs Partnership film premiere of “Alcohol Free in Orkney”
On National Alcohol Action Day, 12 November, The Orkney Alcohol and Drugs Partnership will premiere their “Alcohol Free in Orkney” short film in partnership with Arclett. Arclett is a specialist alcohol prevention platform which focuses on early behaviour change. The premiere will take place in the King Street Halls, Kirkwall from 4pm where everyone is invited to attend.
This film features Martin Gray sharing his own story, explaining how his own relationship with alcohol has changed. It focuses on the importance of talking and having conversations and that these conversations don’t have to be clinical.
Martin Gray said: “It was a huge privilege to be asked to contribute to Arclett’s 100th community story, right here on my beloved home turf. I felt very humbled to have the honour of being asked to recount some of my addiction and recovery stories for, hopefully, a benefit to the health and wellbeing of many people all over the world.”
Scott Woolley, Film Producer at Arclett said: “It was great to travel to Orkney to meet Martin, hear his story and feature it as our 100th community story. Alcohol prevention is not a one-size-fits-all and it’s important to have real conversations with real people to humanise the impact alcohol can have on our lives.”

By sharing his own experience, Martin shows how powerful these conversations can be in helping people reflect on their relationship with alcohol and consider positive change. I’m grateful to everyone involved in bringing this important message to our community and I hope this film encourages people across Orkney to talk, listen and think about their own relationship with alcohol.”
