Fiona MacKay

Fiona MacKay joined Orkney Health Board in August 2025, bringing extensive health and social care experience gained from a number of senior financial and planning roles in the NHS. She has a strong track record in developing a strategic vision for clinical services, focussing on both patient care and financial sustainability. Fiona retired as the Director of Planning for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) in 2023, after leading the strategic transformation programme, Moving Forward Together. Prior to that, she led planning and health improvement in Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership.

Since ‘retiring’, Fiona has supported a number of projects for NHSGGC on a part time basis. These include the development of a Quality Strategy, the drafting of a business case for virtual hospital services and supporting the Project Management Office for Public Inquiries. Most recently, Fiona co-led the Clinical Services Review in NHS Orkney.

Fiona is also a trustee for a large homelessness charity in Glasgow, supporting their work with children and families. She has three grandchildren and enjoys walking and running. Fiona likes to travel in any remaining free time.
