Mouth Cancer Action Month 2017
People across Orkney are being encouraged to take part in a life saving campaign this month.
Members of staff from NHS Orkney Public Dental Service team have already been out and about sporting blue lips this month to raise awareness of the symptoms of mouth cancer and are appealing to others to help spread the awareness-raising message.
As part of the campaign, the group joined forces with staff at Tesco on Wednesday to show off their blue lips and encourage shoppers to be aware of the importance of spotting potential signs of mouth cancer as early as possible.
More than 500 leaflets were given out to customers at Tesco urging people to be MOUTH AWARE and look out for any changes in the mouth. The Team will be out in again on Monday 20th at Orkney Auction Mart.
Nigel Pendrey, Senior Dental Officer advised, “Anyone concerned about any changes in their mouth is encouraged to make an appointment and get it examined. No-one will think you are wasting their time if you want to get an area of concern in your mouth checked. Early detection is absolutely the key so if you are concerned please get checked out.”
If you want to get involved get your blue face paints or lipstick out and share your blue lip selfie with us. Send your pictures to ork-hb.oralhealth@nhs.net.
