Looking after our community and providing excellent care

Two NHS Orkney finalists at this year’s RCN Scotland Nurse of the Year Awards 2025

This year’s finalists for the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Scotland Nurse of the Year Awards 2025 have today been unveiled and we’re delighted to see not one but two NHS Orkney colleagues in the final.

The RCN awards celebrate the #BestOfNursing in Scotland and are designed to shine a light on excellence in Scottish nursing, acknowledging, highlighting, and celebrating the unwavering commitment and exceptional professional care provided by our nursing staff.

Amanda Manson, our Cardiology Specialist Nurse, has been nominated for the Adult Nursing Award. This award aims to recognise those who have succeeded in raising standards of care for their patients and service users and have made an outstanding contribution to the care of adults.

Anne Gregg, Macmillan Specialist Nurse has been nominated for the People's Choice Award. This award is the public’s opportunity to recognise a nurse, midwife or nursing support worker who they believe has made a difference and gone that extra mile to ensure the highest standards of care.

Sam Thomas, Director of Nursing, Midwifery, AHP’s and Chief Officer Acute Services said: “I am delighted to see both Amanda and Anne nominated for these prestigious awards, what a fabulous achievement for them both. I’d like to say a huge congratulations and know their teams and those they work with on a daily basis will share in the congratulations. Congratulations to all the other finalists across Scotland.”

Laura Skaife-Knight, Chief Executive, said: “Very many congratulations to Anne and Amanda. To receive national recognition for their contributions to nursing and the positive difference they each make to our patients and community is the highest of praise and testament to how respected these colleagues are in NHS Orkney and our community. This is an incredible achievement and one Anne and Amanda should be incredibly proud of.”

The awards ceremony will take place in June where the winners will be announced.
