Duty of Candour is a legal responsibility of all health and social care services in Scotland1 . When unintended or unexplained events happen that result in death or harm as defined in 1 Duty of Candour – Scottish Government 8.4 Page 2 of 5 the Act, those affected must be made aware and understand what has happened and receive an apology from the care provider. For the period 1 April 2021 to 31 March 2022, six events were reported where the Duty of Candour thresholds were applied.
